Our firm

Cross Border Planning was founded by James McEvoy, an American national living in Brussels, Belgium. His son, Niels, joined the business in April 2021. Both James & Niels have American & Belgian citizenship.

We are an independent firm that focuses on increasing the financial well-being of individuals and families who have interests in both Europe and the United States. We bring you in touch with the right experts. We have more than 30 years of experience working from Europe and hold advanced designations and licenses in both the EU and the United States.

Our team

James McEvoy

James is the founder & managing director of Cross Border Planning. Throughout his more than 30 years in the financial services industry, James has helped Americans & Europeans living abroad achieve their financial goals.

James is a 1977 graduate of Bowling Green State University Ohio with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He earned his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation from the American College in Bryn Mawr, PA in 1994; his Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation in 1997; and his Accredited Estate Planner (AEP) designation in 2001.

Niels McEvoy

From a young age Niels has been fascinated by the power of markets & financial independence. After working in the tech-sector for nearly a decade, he started working with his father in April 2021.

Before Cross Border Planning, Niels worked as an Account Executive at Google for 7 years and as a Brand Specialist at IBM for 2.5 years. He holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from The Berlin School of Economics & Law and The University College of Leuven. Niels holds the European Financial Advisor certification from the European Financial Planning Association.
